                              lst Brigade Chronology




            1. TIME ZONE USED THROUGHOUT : Unless otherwise stated,
            all times referred to in this chronology are local times
            (Zone C).


                PURF,DSE- To provide information concerning the
            critical events within the lst Brigade during the time
            period 13 January 1991 to 13 March i991.

            3. Phase One. Defense North of the I-apl.inL Roid

                a. Phase One began on 13 January 1991. The brigade
            received orders to move from FAA WENDY and establish a
            defense in sector. The defensive sector- was initially
            south of Lhe Tapliiie Road and oriented to the north
            roughly parallel to the Wadi Al Batin. This phase
            concluded on 26 January when the brigade moved north to a
            new defensive sector oriented along the Saudi-Iraq border
            to the north and the Wadi Al Batin in the east.


                b. Important stiff actions conducted during the phxse
            included:


                  1) The planning priorities for the battle staff
            during this phase weret
                      a) Defend critical logistics bases and MSRs
            located vicinity King Khalid Military City and the Wadi Al
            Batin.
                      b) Begin preparation of plans and orders for
            offensive operations di-trinq Operation DESERT srORM.
                      c) Coordinate the logistical buildup required
            for sustained combat operations.

                  2) Ma,jor orders published:
                      a) FRAGO 91-IZI . Defend in Sector from NS690485
            to NS9603'75. Issued to subordinate units 100700 January
