                                        Doctrine and Tactics
A major component of Iraqi defensive doctrine is the integra-
don of chemical fire in the defense. This doctrine emerged
during Iraq's static defense against Iran. Chemical weapons are
also planned in Iraq's offense as a force multiplier to achieve vic-
tory. Chemical fire will likely be nlixed with HE fire.
                           Defense
Chemical weapons will be used on attacking forces, and against
supporting artillery and the assembly areas of reserve and follow-
on forces. Likely agents to be used against the assaulting forma-
tions would be persistent or nonpersistent nerve and, maybe, CS.
For artillery and troop concentrations, Iraq may use either persist-
ent or nonpersistent nerve and/or mustard agents. Iraq believes
that chemical weapons ran inspire panic among attacking forces
and thus are effective assault breakers. Iraq will employ chemical
reconnaissance forces in its security zone and establish chemical
                           decontamination sites to the rear.
