                                             INTRODUCTION
               The XM21, as a remote sensing chemical agent alarm and detection device, is
           a tool used to avoid a chemical agent vapor hazard. Like any piece of
           equipment its effectiveness depends the knowledge of those who operate it and
           of those who plan its employment. They must understand not only it's
           capabilities and limitations, but also the behavior of chemical agent clouds as
           affected by various weather and terrain conditions. Above all, its use must be
           planned to support the tactical operation.
