          replaced is not dismantled until such time as fielding of the new
          replacement system has begun.

              b. Evaluate the impact of mobilization and the consequential
          effect on new item fielding and include those considerations in
          the system management plan of all new system.

              C. Standardize components, accessories, and spare parts to
          the extent possible. As an example, preliminary engineering
          analysis indicates a singular outlet valve could be adopted for a
          majority of the protective masks within the DOD inventory, and a
          universal carrier should be developed for the field protective
          mask (Ml7 and M40/M42).

              d. Continually update the specifications for the older
          equipment to take advantage of the state-of-the-art; e.g., cotton
          duck replaced by nylon duck, etc.

              e. Complete special surveillance studies of the M24 and
          M25Al Protective Masks to compliment the evaluation completed on
          the M17 series protective mask.
