               NOTE TO TRAINER: Later versions of CANA will have flanges that
               T7stinguish it from the Mark I.

               SEE FIGURE 1.

               C. Determine whether to give the injection in the casualty's thigh or
               buttocks. The outer middle of the thigh is the preferred injection
               site.

                   1. Check the casualty's pockets for items that may Interfere with
               the injector.
                   2. Check the size of the casualty's thigh muscle.

                                                 WARNING
                            If the casualty-has a thin lateral thigh muscle,
                            injection must be administered in the upper outer
                            quadrant of the buttocks.                           black
               0.  Use your dominant hand and grasp the autoinjector with theaneedle end
               extending beyond the thumb and index finger.
               E. Use your other hand to pull the safety cap off the autoinjector
               base. When the safety cap is off, the autoinjector can be fired.

                                                 WARNING

                               DO NOT cover or hold the  black (needle)
                               end with your hand or fingers.


               F. Position the black end of the CANA autoinjector perpendicular
               against the injection site (the thigh or the buttocks as applicable).
               NOTE TO TRAINER: Explain to the students that the needle must be
               perpendicular 'fo the injection site.

               SEE FIGURE 2.

                                                 WARNING

                            00 NOT inject into areas close to the hip, knee
                            or thigh bone. For buttocks injections, inject the
f the
                            casualty's buttocks. This avoids hitting the nerve
                            that crosses the buttock. If this nerve is hit, it
                            can cause paralysis.
