C3I ISSUE NO. 12 Volume of Message Traffic Overwhelming

(SGHR ITEM NO. 3)

BACKGROUND: Volume of message traffic was nearly overwhelming at MAJCOM
       headquarters. Some messages referenced other messages for which the addressee
           was not a recipient causing frustration.

           DISCUSSION: Referencing messages caused confusion and delay in actions at this
           MAJCOM.

           RECOMMENDATION: Do not reference messages unless they were sent to all
           recipients of the message being sent. Instead, summarize the critical
           information contained in the previous message.

           ACTIONS REQUIRED: Noted item. Message traffic dictated by operational
           requirements.

           ACTIONS COMPLETED: Message traffic to and between MAJCOMs was dictated by
           operational requirements and was accomplished within USAF guidelines. MAJCOM
           staff work is the subject here, not message traffic to operational units in the
           field.

           STATUS: Closed.
