File: aabff_09.txtFEB 1: DAY 16 - We were fragged for a 32 X 16 X 16 all with Mk 20's and Mk 82's. We lost one line in the afternoon goes, line 46 for IFF/Mode IV. - Otherwise an uneventful day, the jets flew well and the majori- ty returned Code 1. - The Marines won in a heavy fire fight and took over the town of Kafji. - At about 2200 we received a phone call from CENTAF directing us to move personnel forward to King Khalid to support quick turns. Guess I asked them when they were going to challenge us one too many times!! Jets returning from Kuwaiti targets would carry four Mk 84's and return to the base for an immediate turn around. We were tasked to make this happen and are planning on sending the 17 AMU day shift up there tomorrow. The 10 AMU will be in charge of turning the jets on the N2 side for the Hooters, while the 33 AMU would have command and control of 14N. - Due to the increase in sorties tomorrow, we ceased Phases and scheduled maintenance like we had done before the frag dropped to a lesser one. FEB 2: DAY 17 - We have a discrepancy as to exactly what we will be tasked to fly in the way of sorties once we get up to the FOL, in fact, we received several calls saying it was on then off. To prepare, we are developing a smaller package and a larger one to cover either option. - Today we were fragged with a 48 X 48, a 16 X 16 for each AMU. All the first 48 goes went up. The second goes all went also, but line 49 air aborted for gear problems. - The ADVON team will consist of Major Karr, Chief Barnes, MSgt Holze, a MOC controller and 10 AMMO troops to begin getting the place set up to build and receive bombs. - After receiving another call from CENTAF it appears that they are now starting to regroup and look at the feasibility of what they have casually suggested and how it is exactly supposed to happen. There has still been no firm commitment to it or even to the tasking that will come down. We are currently on hold while this is at a two star level being scrutinized and to see if we are being spread too thin. This whole concept appears to be a good idea in theory, but we are hurting our combat capability somewhere. Today we have seen the fog and friction of war at its greatest.
