	AIRCREW CHEMICAL DEFENSE OPERATING PROCEDURES 

This document outlines basic requirements and procedures to operate in 
a chemical  (combat)  environment. It provides guidance to ensure 
survivability and operating procedures.  When operating in a chemical 
environment these procedures may have to be modified or changed to 
meet mission requirements, especially in a bare base scenario.  In-
spection, cleaning, repair, dissasembly/reassembly, disinfecting, and
decontamination of ACDE components will be accomplished in strict
compliance with T.O. 14P3-1-131.  Any questions, comments, or requests
for deviation from these procedures should be referred to  [(b)(2)]
USCENTAF/DOSL. 

		GENERAL INFORMATION
1.   These procedures presume that clean items of the ACDE will be
prepositioned in the shelter area prior to any attack.  Replenishment
of prestocked items with decontaminated article is a critical part of 
shelter operations.  Amounts of items will vary from unit to unit
depending on facilities available and the number of aircrew members
supported.

2.  The g-suit, torso harness, etc., and any other non-chemically
treated protective equipment may be reused without decontamination 
other than that accomplished during in-processing.  However, dusting
all items with an approved absorbent, or dry decontaminant, would be
helpful.  Items should be left outside on racks as long as practical
to aerate (off gas) . 

			FACILITIES  	
1.    At the deployed location, life support (Superintendent/ NCOIC)
will:  
       a.  Contact disaster preparedness to find out locations to be 
used as toxic free areas (TFA) and coordinate the construction and set-
up of contamination control areas (CCA).  NOTE:  Close coordination 
with Disaster Preparedness is necessary so aircrew CCA operations can
commence simultaneously with general base populace CCA operations. 
      
     b.    Locate facilities (low-threat target areas) suitable for 
storage of bulk aircrew chemical defense ensemble (ACDE) items, CCA
equipment/material, and M-17 series masks for mask exchanges.  

2.     Life support will co-locate the aircrew CCA with the base popu-
lace CCA/TFA operation to the maximum extent possible. 

		ACDE/EQUIPMENT
1.  As soon as possible after arrival in the area of responsibility 
(AOR) life support personnel will: 

     a.  Inspect all handcarried ACDE to ensure serviceability. 

     b.  Ensure all aircrews are issued one complete ACDE sized,
